GOHRING PRODUCTIONS, Est. 2009
(Los Angeles & Austin)
We create high quality comedic & dramatic content for film, television and new media.
“Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” - Steve Jobs’ Stanford Commencement Address
JOY GOHRING
Producer / Director
Joy is currently directing the "Undergrads" web series for James Franco's, Rabbit Bandini Productions in Austin, TX. She created and directed the highly acclaimed sci-fi comedy series, "DateAHuman.com" and recently completed the sexy Bri Squared Chat Show. Joy's award-winning short "18," starring Portia Doubleday ("Youth in Revolt"), was picked up by PBS and she won Best Short at the 2011 Cannes Indie Film Festival for her drama, "Mental."
"18" garnered Joy the industry attention needed to jump start her feature film directing career. Currently in development: "Woomen," a comedy mockumentary starring Jane Seymour, "Sugar Baby," a teen dramedy based on Joy's high school experience and "The Flaming Jerk," written by Jenna Jolovitz (Second City Chicago Alumni). Joy has written and/or directed many shorts including, "Not Tonightie" on FunnyorDie, “Good Girl," “Death Row Cheerleader," “The Office." She's developed and written for Lionsgate, FX Network, Oxygen, Disney Channel, HBO, NBC Universal and Yahoo! Front Page.
BACKGROUND
Joy began as a comedienne in 2000 when she was plucked from thousands of acts all over the U.S. to perform “Without Pants” at HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. There she was snatched up by Carsey-Werner-Mandabach Productions and created, wrote and/or starred in two TV series based on her own unique brand of comedy for the Oxygen Network, including “Good Girls Don’t…” In 2007, Joy was selected to perform stand-up at the “Just For Laughs” Comedy Fest in Montreal and periodically performs improv with Wayne Brady in his Vegas Show, “Makin’ Sh*t Up! After developing and directing several award-winning live stage shows, Joy took the natural leap to directing film.
EDUCATION
Joy received a scholarship to and subsequently graduated from The American Film Institute's prestigious Directing Workshop for Women. She is also a Journalism/Business Alumi of the University of Texas in Austin. Her mother was a former nun and her father was a former monk. Yes, it's true.
FILM DEVELOPMENT - SEEKING INVESTORS
THE FLAMING JERK (Feature Film) Austin/Bastrop, TX
"The Flaming Jerk" is the story of a living man who’s not alive...Andy Masture is an assistant insurance adjuster, so textbook unremarkable you couldn’t pick him out of a lineup. He has lived in the same small town, in the same small room, his whole life. He's a great photographer, yet too shy to take pictures of anything other than cars. Wrecked cars. His grandfather, Martin Musture, is the opposite. Loud, brash and full of life - even though he is confined to a wheel chair. Martin is annoyed by who Andy has become and pushes him to open his own photography studio, taking photos of...people. Andy discovers a new found fame that ultimately shifts the equilibrium of his small town and forces him to decide what is more important: What people think of him or what he thinks of himself?
WRITTEN BY: Jenna Jolovitz is an alumnus of Chicago’s famed Second City comedy troupe where she performed alongside Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Chris Farley, Rachel Dratch, Amy Sedaris, Adam McKay, Nia Vardalos and Stephen Colbert. She has written for TV series: MadTV, King of Queens, SNL, That 80’s Show & The Downer Channel (w/ Steve Martin).
